Remove Programs from Add/Remove Program List

When you uninstall a program, it's removed from your computer and also it will not appear again on Add/Remove Program list. But some of them are still appear in Add/Remove program list. This problem is actually happened because the program uninstaller is not working properly when removing its program from your computer. It removes all installed files but not the uninstaller key from registry.

If you are facing this kind of problem, there is a useful tips that you can use to remove programs from Add/Remove Program list. Follow the following steps:

1. Open Registry Editor by click Start >> Run and type "Regedit" then press Enter.


2. On the Registry Editor window, navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall".


3. Find the name of program that you want to remove from Add/Remove Program list


4. Once you find it, delete it. Remeber, be sure that is the program which you want to remove from Add/Remove program list. Because you can undo this action.

Now, open the Add/Remove Program. You might not see the program on the list anymore. I hope this computer tips useful to you.

Restoring Flip 3D Shortcut on Windows 7

Flip3D was a fun and cool looking feature in Windows Vista that can be very useful for switching between windows. With the improved Windows 7 taskbar, Flip3D was replaced with improved thumbnails and Aero Peek. Those are both good alternatives but I like the speed of viewing all my open windows at once and switching with just two clicks.

This Computer tips and tricks article will show you how to create a Flip3D icon on the Windows 7 taskbar:

1. Right click on the Desktop and select New and then Shortcut.


2. Type in RunDll32 DwmApi #105 in the location box and click Next.



3. Type in Flip3D as the Name and click Finish.



4. You will now have an shortcut on the desktop that will launch Flip3D but it has the wrong icon. Right click on the Flip3D shortcut and select Properties.


5. On the Shortcut tab click the Change Icon button.



6. Change the Look for icons in this file text box to C:\windows\explorer.exe and it Enter. The Flip3D icon will now be available. Select it and click OK.



7. Click OK to close out the shortcut properties window.


8. Finally, just drag and drop the new shortcut on the Windows 7 taskbar to pin it.

Now you have taskbar icon for Flip 3D feature as shown bellow.

Shutdown in 2 Keystrokes

When you tried to shut downing you computer, you should clicking 2 or more button to do so. Especially in Windows XP. In Windows XP you should click the Start Menu button then Shut Down button. After a few second, you should click a Turn Off button once more. Imagine if you are using a laptop without a mouse on it. How long you take it?

But I found a tip to make it easier for you. You can shut down the computer with only 2 key stroke. This tips is very simple. To shut down you computer you can press Alt+F4 keys then press U key on your keyboard. After that the computer will shut down.

You can also use this tips to bring your computer in Standby mode with pressing S key after you press Alt+F4 keys. Or you can Restart you computer with Alt+F4 keys and R key.

Remeber, this tips only works in Windows XP. In Windows Vista and Windows 7 I can't see it works.

Increase Start Menu Speed in Windows XP

Start Menu in Windows XP is too slow to appear. It takes 0.4 to 0.5 seconds to display all start menu items. It can be more if you place many item on it. This is caused by the default Windows XP set the Menu Show Delay to 0.4 seconds. To increase Start Menu speed, we should change this value into zero. We can change it from Registry editor. To do this follow this steps:

1. Click Start => Run.


2. Type “regedit” (without quote) on the Run dialog box then press Enter.



3. In Registry Editor Window, locate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.



4. At the right panel, find MenuShowDelay item.



5. After you found it, change it value from 400 to 0 by double click on it.



6. Close the Registry Editor

Another easy way to increasing speed of Start Menu Items is to turn off the menu shadow. Follow these steps:

1. Right click on your desktop then select Properties.



2. On Display Properties Windows, click Appearance tab.


3. Click Effect button.



4. Uncheck Show Shadow Under Menus.



5. Click OK button to save it.


6. Close the Display Properties Window and save it by click OK button.

Now try to access your Start Menu by clicking on it. Then point to All Program. Is there any changes?

Tuning Hard Disk Speed in Windows XP

How can I increase my hard disk speed in Windows XP/2003? To speed up your hard disk speed we need to configure a special buffer in the computer's memory in order to enable it to better deal with interrupts made from the disk.

This tip is only recommended if you have 256MB RAM or higher.

Follow these steps:

1. Run SYSEDIT.EXE from the Run command.


2. Expand the system.ini file window.


3. Scroll down almost to the end of the file till you find a line called [386enh].


4. Press Enter to make one blank line, and in that line type

Irq14=4096



Note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE!!!


5. Click on the File menu, then choose Save.


6. Close SYSEDIT and reboot your computer.

Done. Speed improvement will be noticed after the computer reboots.

Copy and Move to Context Menu

Copy and paste or cut and paste is something we often do if we manage our files. Sometimes we should move from one directory to another to do so. Imagine if we should manage a lot of files. It will be a hard work because we should move from one directory to another for many times.

To make it easier when we should copying and moving files, we
can create a copy to folder and move to folder context menu in Windows Explorer. With this context menu we don’t need to move between directories. Here’s the steps:

1. Open Notepad by clicking Start Menu and point to Accessories and click Notepad.


2. Then type the code bellow:
   Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
   [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers]
   [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To]
   @="{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"
   [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To]
   @="{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"
   


3. Save it as Registration Entries by clicking menu File => Save As. On the Save As dialog choose All Files on the Save Type As option. Then give it’s name whatever you want but with .reg extention. For example “CopyMove.reg” (without quote). Click save button to save it.



4. After those code saved, execute it then a message box will appear. Click Yes button on it. Another message box will appear if it succesfull and everything is done.

Now you have a Copy to Folder and Move to Folder on your Windows Explorer context menu. Try to right click a file to know it’s working or not. If you need the Registration Entries file, you can download it here. Extract the downloaded file and execute it.

Facebook Chat through IM

I none of you doesn't know Facebook. This social networking service is connecting everyone in the world. One feature that is often used on this service is the chat feature. Perhaps many of us use this Facebook feature to chat with our friends. Moreover, in addition to chat using Facebook, we also chat using IM (Instant Messaging) like Yahoo Messenger. So, sometimes if you have to click the internet browser to chat on Facebook then click again the IM to chat with your in IM.

But now there's an IM that support Facebook Chat. So you can chat in Facebook while chat in Yahoo Messenger in same time and the same window. This applications is called Pidgin.

Pidgin is made for Linux Operating System. This application is used as an IM for several accounts such as Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, IRC and others. But now, a Facebook's plugin has provided for Pidgin. So, you can chat with friends on facebook and chat with friends on Yahoo Messenger for example.

Pidgin also can manage multiple accounts simultaneously. You can chat on Yahoo while you chat on Facebook, Google Talk or others at the sam etime and the same window. The account that supported by Pidgin including: AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber / XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell Groupwise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr. In addition to chat, you can also update your Facebook status from Pidgin. Pidgin also provide notification email features such as Yahoo Messenger, file transfer, buddy icons and customize your existing smiley with your own smiley. You can use Pidgin for free without time limitation.

To be able to use Facebook chat on Pidgin, there are several steps that you need to be so. First, download the pidgin-2.5.6.rar (11.8 MB) here. After that you also need to download pidgin-facebookchat-1.47_2.exe (222 KB) here. Then extract the pidgin-2.5.6(Windows).rar and run the extracted file to install Pidgin. Continue the installation process until it's completed. If Pidgin already installed on your computer, before running it first install the Facebook plugin that you have downloaded earlier. Follow the installation process until finish. When it finished run Pidgin. Then you will see the Welcome screen as shown below.


Click the Add button to add a Facebook account.



Then enter your email and password to your Facebook. Mark the option "Remember password" if you want Pidgin to remember your password. You can also mark on the "New mail notification" if you want it notify you for new mail. You can also change the icon of your account by checking the option "Use this buddy icon for my account". Finish it by clicking on Add button.



If you are connected to Facebook, then you can see your friends on facebook who are online. To add a new account click the Add button on the Welcome window and follow the instructions above. Windows 7 RC Has Been Released

Microsoft has released their latest operating system it is called Windows 7 RC. Perhaps most of computer users interested to try this version of Windows. Now, you can try this version of Windows 7 for free. You can use it for free until March 1st, 2010 without limitation number of download. The evaluation version is available during the July 2009.

The minimum requirements requierements for Windows 7 is:

1. Ghz processor or better.


2. 1 Gb RAM (32-bit versions) / 2 GB (64-bit versions)


3. 16 GB hard drive (32-bit version) / 20 GB (64-bit version)


4. Direct 9X VGA.

If you are not sure whether you PC supports Windows 7, before the installation process you can run Windows 7 Beta Upgrade Advisor to determine whether your hardware can run Windows 7. Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Beta can be downloaded here for free.

Note: an Internet connection is require to run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Beta.

This program will analyze the compatibility of the processor, RAM, Notebook and VGA to run Windows 7. Then it will provide assistance to existing deficiencies of the computer. One thing you should know, before doing the test you are advised to install other peripherals that you use the computer like printer, scanner and others.

If your computer is eligible to run Windows 7, you can download it here. It is an ISO file. All you need to do is burn it into a DVD blank. You can use free software like Infran Recorder or other burning software to do it. You can download the portable version of Infran Recorder here.

Please note for users of Windows XP, you have to do clean install or full install not an upgrade. Because Windows 7 upgrade only support for Windows Vista SP1. Don't forget to back up your data before performing the installation process.

Increase Internet Connection Speed in Windows XP

This tip is designed for increased broadband speed in Windows XP, but it should work for 56k modems too.

QoS Packet Scheduler is a method of network bandwidth management that can monitor the importance of data packets and depending upon the priority of the packet, give it higher or lower priority or bandwidth levels. It's not very useful unless you're using apps which are QoS-aware or running a server, so you can gain some network overhead back by turning it off.

Note: This following tip only work on XP Professional SP2.

1. Make sure you're logged on as actually "Administrator". Do not log on with any account that just has administrator privileges.


2. Start => Run, type gpedit.msc (not available in home version).


3. Expand the Local Computer Policy branch.


4. Expand the Administrative Templates branch.


5. Expand the Network branch.


6. Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window.


7. In right window double click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting.


8. On setting tab check the ENABLED item.


9. Where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0 (ZERO).


10. Close gpedit.msc.

Effect is immediate on some systems, some need to re-boot.
